I, Saksham Awasthi born at Kanpur and completed my studies from DPS, Azad Nagar school. I joined merchant navy right after passing class 12th. Although there were no one from my family, friends or relatives to guide me on how to get into this profession but while I was preparing for IIT-JEE entrance exams, I saw a advertisement board from one of the coaching, mentioning ‘EARN 2 LAKHS PER MONTH’, and that was enough to motivate me to join.

Convincing my family to join this profession was another big task, however when my father met officers who were running the coaching institute and when he saw them doing good financially, he agreed to send me in this profession. 

And that is how my journey started, I completed my Pre-Sea of 1 Year training from AEMA, Karjat in 2012-2013. Later sailed as cadet with stipend of 30,000INR, which I received for the period of 18 months, travelled around the world in more than 18 countries. Thereafter I cleared my officer’s exams and joined ship as Third Officer with a salary of 1,80,000INR per month. And since then I am sailing as an officer. I bought my first car at the age of 23 Years and house at the age of 24 Years.

I am a proud sailor and I love my profession.
